Outdoor passive Power Over Ethernet kit (splitter + injector) for powering AP via Ethernet cable. This is a complete set (injector + splitter). For shorter distances, it is usually possible to use the power adapter with 5.5 × 2.1 mm connector that is normally supplied with the AP.
The wiring corresponds to standard passive PoE – the center of the power connector is connected to the center conductors (blue pair), the shield of the power connector is connected to the outer conductors (brown pair).
Power Over Ethernet is a simple way to provide power to an access point on the roof or anywhere where mains voltage is not available.
Passive PoE uses the spare wires in the Ethernet cable to supply electrical power to the device on the remote side. For short distances (approximately up to 10 m, depending on the specific device), it is usually possible to use this passive PoE. For longer distances, use active PoE according to 802.11af.
Warning! Do not attempt to compensate for voltage drop on long Ethernet cable runs by using a non-standard power supply with a higher rated voltage than recommended for your active device.
Voltage drop on the Ethernet cable only occurs when the source is under load and current flows through the cable. When the current draw decreases (e.g., during an access point reboot), the full voltage of the power supply reaches the remote end of the cable, which in extreme cases may damage the input regulation circuits of the access point.
